Through their interaction, the defining characteristics of the saxophone and the duduk — the qualities that distinguish them as individual instruments — gradually lose their distinctness. Folk and classical, inherent and acquired, different and similar cease to be stable categories. Normalisation does not emerge as a predefined category, but as a result of the interaction itself. Differences gradually become comparable, what is comparable becomes classifiable, and what is classified becomes familiar.”
